Both the high profile Bollywood early releases of 2017, Shahrukh Khan's Raees and Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil have fared below expectations at the box office.
Though Raees had an early lead owing to more screens allocated to it by exhibitors/theater chain owners, its collections fizzled out by end of week 1 itself. The Shahrukh Khan starrer is looking to finish around Rs. 130 crore net, which will be less than even Dilwale. Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil is now running ahead of Raees, and is looking to overtake Raees totals. Regardless, the collections of the Hrithik Roshan starrer too will prove below expectations given the new standard for box office grossers released on large volumes is nearly thrice the figures of these movies.
Meanwhile at around Rs 375 crores nett, Dangal showcasing the story of wrestler Mahaveer Phogat featuring Aamir Khan, long surpassed the earlier collection benchmarks of 2016 Bollywood, beating Sultan, the Salman Khan starrer, as well as generating more revenue than Kabali the Rajnikanth fare from down South.
Among Hollywood releases, XXX co-starring Vin Diesel and Deepika Padukone had a decent opening in India but collections tapered out soon at around Rs. 55 crores gross/35 crores nett.
However what's worth noting this is easily Deepika Padukone's highest grosser ever. Particularly more so, this 'flop' Hollywood film has collected over Rs 1000 crores worldwide, more than the entire collections of Dangal, the current Bollywood raw collection leader.
